Cervical Screening information for patients

Cervical screening checks for early cell changes in the cervix that could lead to cancer. Detecting these changes early means they can be treated before they become more serious.

All women and people aged 25 to 64 with a cervix should receive a routine screening invite letter every three to five years.

It’s important to attend when invited for a screening.  But we know life gets busy, and for many of us, booking a cervical screening (smear test) is something that stays at the bottom of the to-do list—especially if you’re feeling nervous.

If you’ve been feeling unsure or nervous, you're not alone.  We’re here to support you.  We offer a short questionnaire you can fill in before your appointment to let us know how we can make the experience more comfortable for you—whether that’s needing more time, privacy, or a chance to ask questions.

If you missed your last cervical screening, you do not need to wait for a letter to book an appointment. Please contact us to make an appointment with a member of our Nursing or Health Care team.

Nervous about your cervical screening?

You're not alone.  Nurse Jocelyn (Joy) Brewin-Bland is here to make you feel at ease.

If you’ve been putting it off, you aren’t alone. We recently heard from a patient who received 10 reminder letters before coming in. She told us:
'I don't like having them done. However, I have just had it done by Nurse Jocelyn (Joy) today and just wanted to say what a pleasant experience it was. Her manner was lovely.'

Another patient shared that after a previous uncomfortable experience and a traumatic birth, Joy made her feel 'at ease, relaxed, and the test was over so quickly.'

Cervical screening isn't a test for cancer; it’s a test to prevent it by catching early cell changes. Our team, including Joy, is here to support you with kindness and patience.

Ready to book?  Make an appointment using our online form here or contact us by phone or email.

Let us know if you're nervous—we’ll take extra time for you.
