Key Change to COVID vaccine eligibility this season:
The eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination has narrowed to focus on those at the highest risk of serious illness.Information for Adults about the NHS Winter Flu Vaccine
Winter flu vaccination information for adults
Influenza (flu) vaccination is important because, while flu is unpleasant for most people, it can be dangerous and even life-threatening for some, particularly those with certain health conditions. The flu vaccine is recommended for people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu. Getting vaccinated helps protect individuals from flu and relieves the pressure on the NHS and social care services.
In the UK, the flu vaccination season typically starts in September and runs until March, with the main push for vaccinations occurring between September and early December. This ensures people are protected before flu activity peaks, usually between December and March.
We’d appreciate it if eligible patients support The Cranborne Practice by having their flu vaccination with us. Choosing to have your vaccine with us not only protects you — it also helps support your local GP team - we receive a small fee per dose, which helps us continue providing care to the community.
Information about the Children's Flu Vaccine
Flu Vaccines for Children
Later this Autumn we will inviting children aged between 2 to 3 years of age to receive a children's flu vaccination at the surgery.
Please do not contact us yet, as we will publish clinic arrangements on this website and social media when finalised.
Primary School aged children in England (from Reception class to Year 11) will be offered a flu vaccination by the NHS school aged immunisation service.
Children who are home educated will be offered the vaccine if they are in an eligible age group. Parents can obtain information about arrangements from their local authority education department.
Autumn 2025 COVID-19 Vaccination Information
Viruses change, and protection fades over time. The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect against COVID-19 virus, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness. People at increased risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19 are invited to receive the vaccine, which the NHS usually offers in spring and early winter.
Getting the COVID vaccine can help reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms and help you recover more quickly if you catch COVID. It protects against different types of the COVID virus and can help reduce your risk of being hospitalised if you become infected.
The eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination has narrowed to focus on those at the highest risk of serious illness.
Key Change to COVID vaccine eligibility this season:
Now eligible:
• Adults aged 75 and over
• Care home residents (older adults)

Our Autumn 2025 COVID-19 Vaccine Programme Clinics
Our seasonal COVID-19 clinics will be held starting 1st of October as drive throughs at our Lake Road Surgery site in Verwood. Eligible patients are offered the opportunity to receive their Winter flu vaccine at the same time if they wish.
Please note that the focus of the programme is shifting towards targeted vaccination of those at highest risk of serious disease. For Autumn 2025, the COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to:
- adults aged 75 years and over
- residents in care homes for older adults
- individuals who are immunosuppressed aged 6 months and over
This represents a change from the Autumn 2024 programme, which also included adults aged 65 to 74 and all those aged 6 months and over in a clinical risk group.
So while immunosuppressed individuals will be eligible, other clinical risk groups are not.
